In general we usually recommend you have your aquarium serviced at least once per month. Of course this varies fish tank to fish tank, so we’ll do whatever we can to make sure the tank looks and runs swimmingly!

What’s involved in a maintenance service?
Equipment and Health Check
An Aquaria service starts with a quick working order test of the fish tank and equipment followed by a distant livestock health check. Faulty or failing equipment is noted and we’ll explain your best options for replacement or repairs. If any fish look unwell we can also advise on possible treatments that can help remedy any ailments your fish may be suffering from.
Water Chemistry test
Analysis of water quality is an often overlooked practice in the care of aquariums. What people don’t realise is that problems often don’t just pop out of thin air, they slowly arise from declining water quality. Testing your water regularly gives us a clear idea of how your tank is progressing and what exactly we need to do to create your perfect underwater world!
Filter Service
We like to clean our customers filters regularly! By regularly changing your chemical media and thoroughly cleaning your mechanical we are basically priming your aquarium for success. We basically allow the tank to run on all eight cylinders, rather than allowing it to get all clogged up, and of course all the mechanical and chemical media replace is usually included in your service at no extra charge!
Cleaning of other relevant accessories
Some tanks have other equipment such as protein skimmers, reactors and wave makers. In these cases we make sure these are cleaned and running effectively as well.
Gravel Vacuum
Vacuuming the gravel prior to a water change is another under-appreciated task often left undone. Unfortunately over time debris, uneaten fish food and detritus build up in the gravel bed. As this trapped waste breaks down and is released back into the water column it has the potential to greatly affect water parameters, and kill fish.
Water Change
Water changing is sometimes the simplest way to fix an ailing tank. It’s all about dilution of waste and toxins. A basic bad things out good things back in. All we need is some sort of tap close by.
Finish
Finally we pack up, make any last minute adjustments and clean up our work area. It’s almost as if we weren’t even there. We’ll see you at your next service!
